I’ve tried for almost 30 minutes to post this blog post and my devices and blogger will not cooperate tonight. I wanted to post three photos but every time I sent the post to blogger, either blogger refused to publish it because of the photos, or it would publish and remove the photos. So I’m sorry, there are no pictures with my blog tonight. I will post them on Facebook instead.
We had a rather short night of sleep last night. We lost an hour of time and got to our hotel late last night, besides.
We woke up to 30 degrees and clear skies. The high will be 73 today.
We took the old Route 66 from Kingman, AZ to Seligman, AZ before getting back on the freeway. It was a nice change from the busy freeways.
We saw some fun Burma Shave advertisements. Each sign is part of a statement, so it makes it fun to look forward to the rest of the sentence to see how it will end.
"If you don't know....
...whose signs these are...
...then you haven't driven very far...
Burma Shave."
"Thirty days hath September...
...April June...
...and the Speed offender...Burma Shave"
"Slow down Sparky...
...sakes alive...
...ma missed signs four and five.... Burma Shave"
"Don't loose your head...
... to save a minute...
....you need your head...
... your brains are in it. Burma Shave"
We stopped for a late lunch/dinner in Albuquerque and a Facebook friend of mine met us there. It was fun to meet Katrina in person!
We crossed the continental divide today. That seems appropriate since we are also half way to our destination!
Stopped at a Route 66 gas station and tourist trap before Albuquerque.
Our trip today was rather uneventful and that is good! We had great travel weather and no craziness on the freeways and roads.
We were quite amused with the billboards between Las Vegas and New Mexico. In Las Vegas, it was all "come gamble here!" In Arizona it was, "Didn't win big in Vegas? Try our casino!" And in New Mexico, "Gambling problem? We can help."
Sarah and I have worked out a good plan for driving. When it comes to big cities, I am no good at navigation and I get confused as to where to turn etc. Also I do not see well at night. She gets confused in the big cities when behind the wheel, so before we head into big cities, we switch drivers and I drive and she navigates. It works out really well that way.
Our motel tonight is quite nice compared to the one we had last night. It's quite roomy. I'm looking forward to settling in for a good night's rest.
