Day 3 Trip to NC....Area 51; Las Vegas

Our day started out with 14 degrees and ended with removing layers at Las Vegas. I eliminated three layers of clothes between Ely, NV and Las Vegas.

We spent hours on long straight roads with an occasional twist or turn in the middle of deserts abundant with sage brush, Joshua trees and Yucka plants.

We stopped at a couple of gifts shops in the "neighborhood" of Area 51, but we were unsuccessful at finding the entrance to Area 51.  They must keep it hidden.  We drove a long ways and finally gave up. But here is a picture of one of the gift shops.

We finally made it to Las Vegas around 2:30pm.  I was driving.  The traffic was terrifying.  Six lanes across one direction...it was that way on the freeway and the Las Vegas Strip.  

We made it safely to our destination where we had a very late lunch with Sarah's friend and then he drove us to the Mandalay Bay Hotel where we went to the Shark Reef Aquarium and then walked through the casino and rode the tram between hotels.  We walked a lot.  Las Vegas is full of eye candy and is a very distracting place. It's overload for this old lady. The picture below is not the freeway.  It's Las Vegas Boulevard, better known as the strip.

I can't send more than about three photos to my blog at a time in an email, so I will post more pictures later.

We are now in Kingman, AZ at a Quality Inn on the famous Route 66.  For a Quality Inn, this a low class motel....more like a roach motel.  Ha, ha.  But it is what it is and if we had not had reservations we would have been sleeping in the car. So we are thankful for what we got.  We lost an hour, so it is almost midnight here.  I'm exhausted.

I'm thankful for God's protection and watching over us thus far on this trip. This is so far out of my comfort zone.
