Day 6 NC Trip....Cold, and More Cold!

Oh my goodness!  It is cold here!  They are not kidding when they say an Artic blast is blowing through!

We are thankful that there has been no ice where we have had to drive.  God is making a safe path for us so far.  We came through the border of Arkansas and were told that just four hours earlier everything was covered with ice and there were some bad car wrecks.  It was perfect driving conditions when we came through the same area. God is merciful

So far we have not had to drive in any rain snow or sleet and very little fog. I can not believe how great the driving conditions have been in the middle of winter!  So thankful!

We are back in the trees!  We have missed the trees.  And there are curves in the road and stuff to make the trip more interesting.

Funny sign for the day:  "Catfish Round-Up". Was the name of a cafe.  Makes me laugh because I think of the Lewiston Round-Up.   It makes for a funny mental picture of cowboys lassoing catfish.

There was a sign that said Lotawatah Rd and just around the corner there was a lot of water.  That was kind of funny.

We have noticed that the rest areas in the South are so much nicer than what we have in the Northwest.  Man, these rest areas are luxury.  The one we stopped at just after we crossed into Arkansas looked like a library with all the brochures displayed in rows on shelves.  It had some historical displays, a fireplace with rocking chairs and free coffee.  Sarah has been collecting state pins and she asked if they had any for sale and the guy just gave it to her for free.  In Washington you are lucky if the rest area has a clean bathroom. I guess Washington is too cheap to put in super nice "Welcome to Washington" rest areas.

Picked up my first bag of instant grits at breakfast today.  Have not tried them. I'm told they are nasty.

We turned in early tonight...got here before dark.  I like that.  We plan to high tail it out early in the morning. We want to make Nashville before noon so we can goof off a little at the Grand Ole Opry Hotel in the afternoon, then on to Crossville, TN for our last night motel night.
