What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:3
When I read this verse, I thought about all the attacks on Christians and the Christian faith that have been taking place lately around the world and in our own nation. It seems like many are against us, doesn't it?
But think about this verse for a minute. Think about Who God is. He is much bigger than those who are attacking us today. Sure, they can make life difficult for us and even in some cases they even physically attack and kill some Christians. But does that make them bigger than God? No.
For the Christian, death is but a gateway to eternity with God. God considers the death of His saints as precious. Why? Because He then brings them home to be with Him.
What about those who are not killed for their faith, but who end up suffering in some way? When they respond with praise in spite of what they are going through, it encourages others. We see Christ living through them. They can only respond in this way by the grace of God and God is shown to be bigger than their circumstances.
I have such a tendency to complain. I want to be more like those who show the world that God is bigger than what they are dealing with. If God is for us, who can be against us?
