Marsha's Musings: Book Study or Bible Study? (2 Timothy 3:14, 15)

But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (II Timothy 3:14, 15 NKJV)

Observations:

1. Continue in the Holy Scriptures
2. The Holy Scriptures are what makes us wise in the way of salvation
3. Salvation is through faith which is in Christ Jesus

Pretty basic stuff, but so many forget it.  I have long been bothered by "Bible studies" that are really book studies. People gather to read through a book by some author and work through a study guide relating to the topic of the book.  Yes, Scripture is used.  But the book is the focus of the study and the Bible is just used as reference.  Maybe it's a pet peeve that is silly. But I still ask why?

What happened to Bible Studies?  What happened to people getting together to study the Bible?  There are many good study guides out there that go verse by verse or chapter by chapter through various books of the Bible.  Seems like the Bible should be the primary source for Bible study, rather than other books.
