Marsha's Musings: What Happens When Riches Go to A Christian's Head

My Quiet Time:

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. (I Timothy 6:17-19 NKJV)

I find it interesting that in some of the churches I have been a part of in my life, that there are those members who are wealthy and seem to think that because they give a fair chunk of money to the church each month that they should be able to control the church.  When something isn't to their liking, they throw an adult temper tantrum and withhold their tithe because they think they can starve the church financially so they can get their way.  This is completly unscriptural according to this passage.  They are being haughty.

This passage is pretty clear about how the rich are to conduct themselves as Christians.  If those in the church who are wealthy would obey and follow this passage they would be a great blessing to the church.  But when they get a haughty spirit and begin using their wealth to control the church, then it's time for them to leave and go find a church they can be content in.
