Marsha's Musings: Qualifications of Deacons & Their Wives

My Quiet Time:

Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience. But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless. Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. (I Timothy 3:8-13 NKJV)

Here we have more qualifications for church leaders. It's all pretty straight forward, but also contains the two qualifications I mentioned yesterday that cause some stir among some....I will let you look at yesterdays' entry for those rather than repeat it all here again.

I think that the qualifications for the wife of the deacon should be applied to all Christian women.  Wouldn't it prevent a great deal of dessention in the church if it did?  However, there are some men who need it also....men can be just as bad with their tongues as we women can!  It's just women are addressed because most often we have the sharper tongues.

Just for reveiw, here are the qualities that I need to work into my life:

Reverence, not slandering, temperate, and faithful in all things.

Reverent~showing respect for my husband and respect for the things of God and the leaders of the church.

Not slandering~not accusing someone falsely or without evidence.

Temperate~not given to wine or alcohol. Sober.

Faithful in all things~keeping my word when I say I will do something. Discharging the duties of a wife faithfully, being faithful to the cause of Christ and the church.

How am I doing?  Where do I need improvement?  Things to ponder.
