Marsha's Musings: The Pillar and Ground of the Truth

My Quiet Time:

These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly; but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. (I Timothy 3:14, 15 NKJV)

Paul's whole point in writing is so we would know how to behave as Christians in the church. Colossians 3, also written by Paul expands on how we should behave and treat each other.

Satan would like nothing better than to see good churches that preach the truth implode due to misbehavior of its members toward one another and toward the pastor.

Our churches are to be churches of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.  This makes me think of something strong and immovable, yet many Christian churches where the truth is preached faithfully week by week are being torn apart from the inside out by members who do not treat each other according to the Bible and who are disgruntled and meddling where they don't need to be.

How do we counter that?  By much prayer and by calling people back to Biblical behavior.

We also have churches that once were pillars and ground of the truth but no longer are.  They have succumbed to the "seeker sensitive" model and instead of training their members in the truth, they get a mushy little devotional message for the "seekers" followed by a guilt trip for the members because they aren't busier in the "programs" of the church!

The church's programs seem to take a front seat to the plain truth of Scripture.
Purpose Driven seems to be the mantra. What happened to being driven by the plain Word of God?

I didn't mean to go off on all of this, but these things are heavy on my mind these days.
