Marsha's Musings: House Fire/True Friends

Yesterday as we came home from church we saw a lot of smoke coming up from downtown.  A fire truck from our nieghboring town across the river came tearing across the bridge behind us.  We knew that with that much smoke and back up coming from across the river that it had to be bad.  And it was.

We later learned that an electrical fire had destroyed the home but the occupants all got out safely and were being cared for by the neighbors.

I thought about how fragile life is that way. We never know when or if danger or disaster might strike anyone of us.  Think of the Marathon bombing, the Oaklahoma tornados, the East Coast hurricane, just to name a few.  And then you have all the small scale disasters such as this house fire.  I'm sure most of the occupant's earthly possessions were destroyed in that blaze.

How much do I take for granted each day?  Each day is a blessing from God.  Each day without disaster or illness is a day of special blessing from God.  Do I remember to be thankful?  Do I reach out and help those who need a touch of God's comfort in the midst of hardship?

My Quiet Time:

Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;) And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me. (Colossians 4:10, 11 KJV)

Paul continues with the closing of his letter, naming those who have helped him, and been faithful to him. He says "These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me."

Am I a fellowworker with those who serve in the body of Christ? Am I a comforter to them?  In what ways do I do these things?  How can I do better?
