Marsha's Musings: Rough Start

Rough start this morning. Woke up with a headache. Hoping it will get better as the day goes. Usually these kind don't, but I can still hope, right?

Yesterday was a productive day. I straightened things up on my patio and started my little water fountain. I love the sound of running water. Now I can come out in the morning before it gets too hot, sit on my patio with my back to the sun and have my quiet time, drink my tea and write my blog post. Love the sun on my back!

Yesterday I worked on tearing up the grass/sod along my rose bushes. I also sprayed weeds and pulled weeds. I cleaned up my patio, watered my plants, and bunch of other routine items that pop up on my list each day.

I'm reading David Allen's "Getting Things Done" and have enjoyed it a lot. I had adapted my "Errands" app on my iPod to work with that but then I got to thinking if something happened to my iPod, I would be lost. It's my brain. So I reluctantly switched over to using the reminders app that came with my iPod because it syncs to the cloud and can be accessed from any computer. But alas, I am not as happy with it because it doesn't have the bells and whistles that "Errands" has. Maybe I should search and see if I can find something that has a website that goes with it where all my data can be stored and used in the event that my iPod gave up the ghost or got lost.

My Quiet Time

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: (Colossians 2:8-10 KJV)

These verses are pretty self-explanatory. They pretty much rule out any kind of man-made religion that is based on the traditions, philosophies and worldly teachings of men.

Basically, Paul is saying any religion that is not patterned after Christ is false and deceitful. Ask a person what their religion or church teaches on any particular Bible doctrine. If their answer is, "Church tradition teaches....." or "Our prophet teaches..." or "Our Church teaches...." or "Our scriptures (meaning extra Biblical books) teaches..." beware!!!! If they can't point you to the Bible and show you what the Bible teaches, then there is a good chance that it falls in the category of Colossians 2:8.

Of course maybe they are correct in their thinking but not good at finding it in the Bible. So don't be too quick to judge until they have had time to get back to you with the Bible references to back up what they say. Remember to always read the entire context of the Scriptures. Many have built false doctrines around a verse or two and when you read the entire context you find a different story.

Some Bible doctrines aren't so easy. You can't just point to one passage for instance to show that the Bible teaches the doctrine of the trinity or the doctrine of election. One has to read the New Testament as a whole to grasp these things because it is easy to cherry pick a verse here or there for or against and miss the whole meaning.

Well, I think I have rambled on here long enough. My alerts are popping up on my screen telling me I need to go work on the landscaping and other things today.
