It's a messy Monday.
I must confess that I was not amused with the robin outside my window that was so cheerful about dawn. I had thoughts of what I would do if I had a shot gun, at that hour of the morning, in my possession. Goodness that would be fodder for the anti-gun folks!
So my day is getting off to a rather slow start since I am so tired. I really have to go to bed earlier at night so I can manage these early hour wakings. If it is not the birds getting me up it's just me waking up for no good reason. I. must. get. more. sleep.
Our internet is being uncooperative for Nathaniel which makes getting school work done not an easy task. Ugh.
My Quiet Time
The Apostle Paul wants his readers to have their faith anchored in Christ and wants to protect them from being led astray by false teaching. Colossians 2 holds a great deal of weapons that can be used against the false teachings that come our way.
I will have more to say about that as I get further into it in future posts.
Notice Paul wants his readers hearts comforted and knit together in love, with full assurance of understanding and the acknowledgement of the mystery of God and the Father and of Christ. All these treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ.
Notice these key words:
1. understanding
2. acknowledgement
3. wisdom
4. knowledge
Why am I pointing out these words? It's because so many Christians go happy go lucky through life only cracking their Bible open on Sunday or maybe one other day of the week when they attend a small group study. But the rest of the week it sits unopened on the shelf unless they are hurridly trying to get their lesson done before small group meeting.
All these words imply that there is work to be done. Digging into the Word of God to learn of Christ and what He wants for us. We need to learn the great doctrines of Scripture so we won't be led astray by false teaching.
Oops! I said that nasty word doctrine. Beware of anyone who tells you doctrine is divisive Run from them as fast as you can. There are preachers/teachers today that will tell you that doctrine is divisive. They stay away from teaching the great truths of Scripture and stick instead to warm fuzzy messages that make everybody feel good. These preachers and teachers are not shephards of the flock. They are goat herders. Jesus taught that at the last day He would divide the sheep from the goats. He will be divisive!!! Yes, doctrine does divide. It divides the false from the true.
All that said to make the point that the words in the first few verses of Colossians 2 mean that we must study God's and study as if our lives depended on it! We can't know what God wants us to know if we don't dig in!
"For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. "(Colossians 2:1-7 KJV)
