Journal Entry Sept. 15, 2011 Mama Bear Struggles

This day has not been a day for accomplishment. I helped N with his math. Took care of email and phone call and that is about all I did this morning. I was to nervous about S's interview this afternoon.

We left around 1:15 and got up to P... with enough time to stop at the bank. Got S to her drop point on time, went back and filled the car with gas, then back to SEL to wait for a group of home school people who were going to join us on a tour of the SEL manufacturing building.

It was fascinating to see all that they do there. But I think I was most impressed with how they treat their employees. The employees are the owners of the company, so all of them take pride in their work because the better the company does the better off they are. Each employee gets shares in the company based on their pay. If the company does well their shares do well.

They are concerned that the employees do well and succeed. An example: One employee was making a lot of mistakes. He was called in and it was discovered that because he was so friendly and liked to talk to everyone he was getting distracted in his work and making mistakes. So they told him to put ear buds in his ears and listen to music while he worked so he wouldn't be distracted and want to talk to his fellow workers. His productivity and accuracy rate shot right up. That was a great solution...instead of firing him.

S learned that they already hired for the L... plant, so if she gets hired it will be for the P... plant. I was disappointed to hear that. If she gets the job it will be like putting my child on a school bus and sending her off into the big wide world. I think this business of parenting gets more difficult when they start growing up and getting jobs then easier. When they were young it was physically difficult. But when they grow up it is emotionally difficult.

I'm beginning to identify with Ken Davis' tongue in cheek statement about thinking every man his daughter had to be around out in the world was a pervert. I found myself looking at some of the guys on our tour and thinking, "Oh, if she gets this job she might have to talk to that guy. I hope he is nice....he better not make any passes at her!"

Lord, help this old mama bear to adjust and roll with whatever is Your perfect will even if it is difficult for me.

We'll know in a few days if she has the job. They will call. She said she passed the test and got the second interview. So we sit on pins and needles for a few days and wait for the verdict. In the mean time, she has another job interview at Spot On Yogurt for the Lewiston store. And she need to finish up her app for C.... We'll see what door the Lord opens to her, and pray that this mama bear can be still and know that He is God.
