Devotional: Small Judgments Foreshadow the Ultimate Judgment

Acts 2:19-21 I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.'

Last evening we came home from an afternoon up on the praire.  As we drove to the edge of the hill before descending down into the valley, our gaze was met with a wall of smoke from the east.  The entire valley was covered with a layer of smoke.  We wondered aloud if we really wanted to go down into that mess.

Since we have had lots of smoke over the last week or so here, sometimes the sun rise looks fiery red and at night the moon sometimes has an eerie orange/red glow.

A young friend from church told me he was reading a book that said that the small judgements we have each day are shadows of larger judgements to come.  The smoke in the valley is the small judgement that foreshadows the ultimate judgement of the Day of the Lord when He will judge unrepentant sinners.

Those who call upon the name of the Lord in repentance now will be saved from the judgment of God on that day.  Don't let that day come to you without coming to the Lord in repentance for salvation.  Psalm 2:12 says, "Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him."
