Hidden Treasures: Peace~How far do you go to maintain it?

Hebrews 12:14-15 Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

What kind of peace is this talking about?  Does it simply mean seeking to be peaceful with your neighbors and those you come in contact with?  This I can see as being the intent.

There are some who would go so far as to throw essential Biblical doctrine out the window in order to maintain peace, after all, "Doctrine divides", they would say.  I don't see this as being the intent of this verse at all.  Read the Gospels, especially John and you will find that at almost every turn there was division because of Jesus. If setting aside essential doctrine in order to maintain peace was the intent of this passage, then I think Jesus would have been trying to make peace as any cost instead of allowing division o happen because him.

John 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of Him.

John 9:16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, "This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.

John 10:19 ¶ Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings.
