I Never Cease to Be Amazed

I never cease to be amazed at how often (every Sunday) the sermons at church hit me right where I live.  It's as if the speaker, whether it be our regular pastor, a guest speaker or one from our own congregation speaking, it is almost always relevant to my life.  They preach straight from the Bible, it's not something clever they made up out of their heads or some pop psychology of the day.  It's just God's Word (the Bible) being faithfully taught.

Heb 4:12 says,  "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."  Here is the reason, the sermons hit me right where I live...God's Word goes straight to the heart.  It puts a spotlight on my thoughts and the intentions of my heart and it pierces me where I need it, and it comforts me where I need comforting.

That is why the preaching of the Word of God, (the Bible) is so vital in churches today.  I believe that is why we see so many Americans who call themselves Christians but do not live lives that reflect that claim.  It's because they are not taught the Bible in church and they are not taught in church to go home and search the Scriptures for themselves during the week.  If you do not hear the Word of God and you do not study the Word of God, how can you know what He wants and expects of you?  How can you be obedient if you do not know what He commands?  How can you have a life changed by the Holy Spirit if you do not allow God's Word to permeate your life?  How do you know if you are indeed one of His sheep and not a goat?
