Marsha's Musings: Selections from 1 Corinthians Chapter 4

1Co 4:1 ¶ Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

Faithfulness or trustworthiness in regards to the handling of the Word of God is a requirement. We are servants of God and stewards of His Word. We are not to twist it for our own advantage

1Co 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one's praise will come from God.

What do I have hidden?  What are the purposes of my heart? Do they align with God's purposes?

1Co 4:7 ¶ For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

The talents and abilities that I have can all be traced to God having gifted me with them. There is no room to boast.

1Co 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.

The kingdom of God consists of God's power to work through the words of men who are faithful stewards of His Word. It does not consist in the cleverness of man's presentations and persuasiveness, but only in the faithful proclaiming of the mysteries of God through His word.
