Phone Call With Sarah Tonight

Had a great phone call tonight from Sarah.  She loves her work and where she is living. She described a bit about the work environment at Classical Conversations and it sounds perfect for her.  If they offer her a permanent position at the end of her apprenticeship I'm pretty sure she would take it.

The work environment is designed around the employee's work and learning styles just like homeschool should be.  (Although I don't think I did very well at that with Sarah, Nathaniel got the better end of the stick in homeschool that way.)  If they don't want to work at their desk, then they are free to go sit down the hall at any one of several different areas.

She can take her laptop and sit at a tall table with bar stools like you see in coffee shops, or there is the couch where she can kick off her shoes and spread out, or she can go enjoy the outdoors on the patio, there is even a table with a write on white off table top where she can doodle her ideas as she works.

All the staff meetings begin with prayer and each day they all take a break together for devotions and prayer as a group.

All the employees get a free membership to the athletic club next door and access to the nature trail through the wooded area and the obstacle course.

It's really a good work environment for someone like her who doesn't like to sit still for very long.

She is learning a lot about the community she lives in. Pinehurst was a monarchy up until the 1970's.  It was owned by a wealthy family. In the depression years, they had their own currency and were not affected too much by the depression.  The man who started Pinehurst (actually called the Village of Pinehurst now) wanted the streets to go all helter-skelter like they do so people would get lost and have to talk to their neighbors to get help to find their way around.  He thought it fostered more community friendliness if people were forced to get to know each other.  They still don't have mail delivery for anybody in Pinehurst.  They all have to go get their mail at the post office where they will see their neighbors and other people of the community.  Everyone calls the town Pinehurst, but legally, it is the Village of Pinehurst because when the town was sold and incorporated, they couldn't call it Pinehurst because the original owner had trademarked the name. So when they incorporated, they had to change the name of the town, so they called it the Village of Pinehurst.

While I am thrilled that so far this seems like the perfect place for Sarah, it makes my heart ache at the thought of not seeing very much of her in the future.  I wish she was not so far from home. That makes my heart ache.
