This day started out kind of rough and ended rough. We had a hard time packing the car in a timely manner because Sarah was not feeling well (lady stuff :/). So this morning we didn't actually get out of the driveway until 10:30 am, which put us behind right out of the starting gate.
We stopped at Dutch Bros to get coffee for the road and apparently in line, Sarah was distracted looking down and must have lifted her foot off the break and we hit the car ahead of us. No damage to them but she got a hole punched in her bumper from their trailer hitch. That was a very bad start to the trip. She was so upset I had to take over driving. Dutch Bros was great though, and gave us both our drink for free.
We saw a lot of beautiful scenery today, and some fun stuff along the way.
So I drove until Payette, ID. We decided there to switch because I don't drive well after dark. When Sarah started the car up the check engine light came on. I looked it up on Google and it said we really needed to get it checked out ASAP. So we Googled the nearest Autozone to go get the test that tells what is wrong. I don't remember what town it was, but it was about 15 miles from Caldwell. We started on our way with Sarah behind the wheel, but then the fog set in and it got dark and she suddenly pulled off the road in full panic attack mode. So we switched places and I drove. The fog was awful and when you don't know where you are it's worse. I had to fight panic mode too.
We made it to the Autozone and the test came back that the knock sensor was having problems. They didn't have one in stock, but told us it would be cheaper to buy it ourselves and then have a mechanic put it in than than to have the mechanic buy for us and install it. So they found one at the Caldwell store and we drove there and got it.
We cancelled our motel in Mountain Home and we are staying in Caldwell tonight. Sarah has called the mechanic tonight and left a message and we are hoping we can get in early tomorrow to have it worked on.
I called Ely where we wanted to stay tomorrow and they said I could cancel as late as 6pm without being charged tomorrow. So I am keeping that reservation and then if we get stuck here for too long tomorrow, I'll cancel that reservation and we will find a closer place to stay.
So, here we are at our motel, and I go out to the car to grab something, come in and I don't have my motel key. I had it when I went out, but not when I came in. So I had to retrace my steps. I found it in the snow behind the car.
So we had pretty bad start to our trip and we don't know what kind of a start we will have tomorrow since the car has to be worked on. But here are the things we can be thankful for.
1. We are safe and warm tonight.
2. We didn't get charged for canceling our motel in Mountain Home.
3. This motel had a vacancy and not too expensive.
4. Sarah found she could order a new bumper online for about $200 & she has a friend whose boyfriend doesn't live very far from Pinehurst who is an auto repair guy. He might be able to help her with it.
5. We saw some very beautiful scenery along the way.
6. God is teaching us to trust Him more....it's not easy, but I'm trusting he will be merciful and bring us safely to our destination
7. We have friends and family praying for us and we really need those prayers and appreciate them!
