Marsha's Musings: That Our Joy Might be Full (I John 1:1-4 NKJV)

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. (I John 1:1-4 NKJV)

John was an eyewitness of the Jesus Christ and His ministry.  Notice the following words in these verses and phrases:

Heard
Seen
Looked upon
Handled
Bear Witness
Manifested to us

This is no hear-say religion.  There were eyewitnesses to the life of Christ and all that He did.  John has credibility because he was an eye-witness.  We can  believe what he says because he was there and saw it.

What does John say about Christ?

1. He is from the beginning
2. He is the Word of life
3. He is eternal life
4. He was with the Father
5. He was manifested to men
6. He is the Son of God the Father

What does John say about fellowship?

We can have fellowship with one another when our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

What is the purpose of John's writing?

That our joy may be full.
