Marsha's Musings: Those Who Are Different (James 2:1-4 NKJV)

My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? (James 2:1-4 NKJV)

How often does this happen among Christians?  It is so easy for us to look at someone who comes into our church services wearing strange or even dirty clothes and we try to avoid eye contact with them because they make us uncomfortable.  What about the person who just seems a little strange, maybe different than the rest?  How do we treat them? Do we try to make them welcome among us? People come in many forms and with unique baggage. Not everyone will fit the mould of Sam or Samantha Spiritual Christian. I need to get out of my comfort zone, out of my little circle of friends and make these people feel welcome in the company of Christians.
