Marsha's Musings: When Circumstances Are Bad--Even Evil (Hebrews 11:20 ESV)

By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau. (Hebrews 11:20 ESV)

Isaac knew by faith that God had great plans for one of his sons. He assumed it would be the older son because that was tradition.  But God had other plans. Isaac was blind and his wife tricked him into believing Esau was there with the dinner he requested when it was really Jacob. So Isaac blessed the "wrong" son. Esau cried out and begged for a blessing too, which he got, but not exactly what he hoped for.

Isaac is commended in Hebrews for blessing the boys by faith. Even though his wife and younger son tricked him, he did not rescind the blessing he had given Jacob when the truth came out.  He had faith that God uses circumstances and is in control of circumstances, so he let his blessings stand.

I also see in this that God uses even the wicked intentions of Rebekka and Jacob to accomplish his will.  God is not the author of evil. Rebekka and Jacob are still responsible for their evil, yet, God used their actions to accomplish His will.

Do I have faith to believe that circumstances beyond my control that are bad or even evil can be used by God to accomplish his will in my life or the lives of others?
