Marsha's Musings: We Must Believe God (Hebrews 11:5, 6 NKJV)

By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:5, 6 NKJV)

How did Enoch please God?  He pleased God by having faith to believe God is God and he believed God when God promised to reward him for seeking Him.

Many today say they have faith. What is their faith in?  Is their faith in what God promises in the Bible or is their faith in their own ideas of what they want the Bible to mean and a god of their own imagination?

Many say they believe in God. Ask them what they think of Jesus Christ.  Is He the saviour?  What is He a saviour from?  What was His purpose on earth? Do you need a saviour?  Is Jesus God?  Did He claim to be God?

If a person's view of Jesus is skewed from what the Bible shows us, then it follows their view of God is also skewed. A skewed view of Jesus leads to belief in a false Jesus that can not save and a false view of God in general.

The key then is not belief in God, but believing God as He is revealed in the Bible. This means believing all that God has said in His Word. This is saving belief, saving faith.  Anyone can believe in God, but it won't please God or save anyone. We must believe God.
