Therefore means we have to look back and see what it is there for. Just before this he was talking about "joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven." (Hebrews 10:34 NKJV)
Since you know you have a better and enduring possession in heaven, then don't throw away your confidence when confronted with trials and persecution! If they kill your body, then you just move on up to heaven.
