Marsha's Musings: Consider Jesus! (Hebrews 3:1, 2 ESV)

Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. (Hebrews 3:1, 2 ESV)

Consider Jesus.  These days there are so many preachers and teachers in churches all over American and the world who are not urging their congregations to consider Jesus.

No, they are urging people to consider WHAT Jesus can do FOR THEM, and it is not about salvation although it's couched in that.  They say things like, "Come to Jesus and He will fix your marriage." or "Come to Jesus and He will help you fix your finances and budget."  or "Come to Jesus and He will heal your body."

Many of them barely give Jesus a parting glance in their sermons before they are off and running on all the opportunities for service and ministry in the church. They guilt people into volunteer service within the church programs....all under the guise of serving God.  They  make their people so busy serving God (a.k.a. the church) they do not have time for God. The people end up substituting preparation for teaching their Sunday School class or preparation for small group book study etc. for their own personal devotions.  I know because I've been in churches like this.

So the message becomes consider all the places of service you can be plugged into in the church or consider how Jesus will fix all your troubles instead of just consider Jesus. Consider His sacrifice for your sin.  Consider what He is doing right now in heaven interceeding on your behalf.  Consider His Word. Consider Jesus!
