Marsha's Musings: Rewards

It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. (2 Timothy 2:6 ESV)

Here is another axiom, something that is generally true.  What is Paul driving at?  The soldier and the athlete axioms were fairly simple to figure out.  How does this apply to the Christian ?

Maybe the following verses will help.

Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, bNut only as through fire. (1 Corinthians 3:12-15 ESV)

We will be rewarded according to the works we do as Christians. Perhaps the axiom about the hardworking farmer could refer to this. He will be rewarded for the work he does in carefully tending the crops with the proper care, so the Christian will be rewarded for the work he or she does with the proper motives.
