Marsha's Musings: A Mother,s and Grandmother's Example of Faith (II Timothy 1:3-6 NKJV)

I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. (II Timothy 1:3-6 NKJV)

What stands out to me here is that Paul points out that he remembers the genuine faith of Timothy's grandmother and his mother and he is convinced Timothy has it too.  It is significant to me that it was the mom and grandmother whose faith he mentions. What about the dad and granddad?  Were they deceased early on?  Did they drop the ball along the way?  Were they not active in their faith?  Why weren't the father figures mentioned?

It appears that these women carried the responsibility for the spriritual leadership for their children and they did a good job of it.

This should be encouraging to those moms whose husbands do not lead the family spiritually.  It is still possible to raise  godly children even if you get no help or spiritual support from your husband.  By God's grace, you can be that spiritual example that they need.  Be encouraged!
