Marsha's Musings: My Quiet Time: He Will Complete It

My Quiet Time

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. (1 Thessalonians 5:23, 24 ESV)

The God of peace.  This is significant.  God is a God of peace. He brings peace between sinners whom He saves and Himself.

Sanctify you completely.  This is an ongoing process, but it has a completion date.

May your whole spirit and soul and body be keep blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  This links with sanctification mentioned in the last line.  This indicates that we will realize complete sanctification when Jesus Christ comes back.

He who calls you is faithful; he surely will do it.  I love this line.  While sanctification is difficult and requires work on our part, God is the One Who ultimately sanctifies us.  He is faithful to bring about circumstances into our lives that give us the opportunity to mortify sin and allow the process of sanctification to take place.  He is th One Who brings those verses of scripture to mind and pricks our conscience when we are tempted to yield to temptation or have yielded.  He is the One who helps us develop the graces and character in our lives that honor Him.  Without His work of sanctification in our lives, we would not be sanctified and fit for heaven.  He is the One Who will complete the process for us because we surely can't do it ourselves!  He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6 ESV)
