Marsha's Musings: The Coming of The Lord

Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 ESV)

Kind of sounds familiar.  I've seen people reported in the news who have set dates and said The Lord would come at this time or that time.  They always end up with egg on their faces.  

I can't say I've heard any yet that say The Lord has already returned, but I am sure they are out there or have been out there.

It's so important that we read the Bible and know what it says concerning these things or we will be deceived. 

The return of The Lord won't happen until a great rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed.  He exalts himself and claims he is God. We have had a few that have come close to this, but they have been knocked down.  Hitler was one. 

There have been many who speculate as to who this one will be.  But I think rather than spend our time on this kind of frivolity, it would be better to spend our time living for the glory of God and doing what we are commanded to do as Christians.  We need to work while it is day.  The night will come soon enough.  And we need to be preparing ourselves for the return of Jesus Christ.  Leave the timing  and revealing up to God.  We will know who it is when it happens.  God hasn't revealed it in Scripture, so maybe we are not to sit around and debate about who it might be.
