Marsha's Musings: Preaching to Myself

I don't have much to share in the way of what's been going on in my life.  It's all pretty much undane.  Just a big list of to do's that I struggle to get through each day and find that I'm failing miserably at it while the list grows steadily longer and longer.  Not sure if I will ever dig myself out of the hole.

My Quiet Time:

Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. (Colossians 4:1-4 KJV)

Verse four actually should go with the section I covered yesterday under relationships in the family and work place.  Not sure why they put a chapter division right there, but we know chapter divisions are not inspired.

The rest of this short section has to do with prayer.  Verse 3 says we are to watch or be alert in our prayers and that we are to pray with thanksgiving.  I don't know about you, but I have trouble with this.  It's so easy to get routine in our prayers and just rattle them off half heartedly.

It's also easy to go to prayer with our laundry list of problems and things we want God to do for us and others, but we fail to spend time just thanking God for who He is and for the answers prayer He has already given, whether He answered to our liking or not.

The verses following this regard missionary work.  We are supposed to pray for missionaries, pastors, teachers to be given the right words to say as they preach the Gospel.

We also need to pray for ourselves that God would give us the right words to say as we witness to those around us.

Prayer is so important to the Gospel and yet we neglect it so much.  So much of prayer meetings are spent praying for everyone's ailments and very little prayer is spent praying for God to give His people the words they need to say to help bring the Gospel to those who need to hear it.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone but myself  here.  If any of this resonates with you, that's great, but I'm preaching to myself here more than anything.
