Marsha's Musings: Seeking Those Things Above

It was a bad night of sleep.  But I was able to read Nathaniel's paper for spelling and punctuation errors at 4:30am.  So the time was not lost.  It was a convicting paper on what we do with the preaching we hear. I'm beginning to think this boy might have a career in writing somewhere in the future.

So I am having a late start on my day.  That's okay.  I'll just roll with the punches, dust myself off and continue from here.

Oh, yesterday I got to see the library kittens. They are adorable!

My Quiet Time

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:1-3 KJV)

If, meaning it is assumed to be true that the reader is risen with Christ.  So it could be read since you are risen with Christ, seek those things which are above.

I dare say the majority of Christians, myself included, have our affections set on things on the earth.  For instance, how many of us when faced with a decision, ask ourselves, "If I do this thing will it bring glory to God?  How?".  No, most of us in our prayers just ask God to close or open doors so we know which direction to take, or we pray, "Lord you know how good this thing would be for me so please open a way for it to happen." and then to be spiritual we throw on an "If it is Your will." at the end.

Perhaps our posture should be to look at the options or items in question and ask ourselves first, "How will I use this to bring glory to God?  Can I bring glory to God with/in this?"  If the answer is no then we should let that idea/thing go.  If the answer to the question is maybe, or yes, then we should bring it to the Lord in prayer with an open hand and ask God to show us His will concerning it and be prepared to let it go if He closes doors or shows us through His Word that it's not His will.
