Marsha's Musings: Completeness

Started my day off contemplating the job announcements. Hallmark Merchandiser for Walmart sounds interesting. But the downside is that every holiday season would tie me up for extra days and being able to lift up to 50lb boxes is not a great idea given my neck & shoulder problems. So tempting to apply, but I probably should let that one pass. :/

Yesterday I got to do an Easy Shift at Costco. Had to check out their bananas, tomatoes and red onions. Take photos and record prices. Not a big money shift, only $4 but it took me less than 30 minutes to complete and I had to return something there anyway.

Today I am debating on whether or not I want to go outside and work in the yard. I've been working out there every morning of late. Think I need a break.

My Quiet Time

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: -Colossians

Focusing on the word complete in this verse. A well known church that sends people door to door tried to convince me that my life was not complete unless I read their book and became a member of their church. They tried to convince me that the Bible was incomplete without their extra scriptures.

The implication was that I was missing out on something because God was not able to keep His Word complete. Because God does not have the power to preserve His Word, and I am missing precious parts of it, I am incomplete.

Hogwash! This is wrong on so many levels. First of all, it is in direct conflict with what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches that if we are in Christ we are complete in Him. We have all that we need to live a godly life, pleasing to Him and have our sins forgiven and an inheritance reserved for us in heaven. You can't get more complete than that.

Secondly, it implies that God is not all powerful, that He can't preserve His Word and that He can't be trusted. That is not the God of the Bible.

Thirdly, it de-thrones God by making God less than God and puts man in the place of God to decide what constitutes God's Word and if it is reliable or not.

I'm sure if I thought hard enough I could come up with more but I will stop here.

Don't let anyone lead you astray by telling you God's Word is not complete, thus implying that you are not complete in Christ because you are missing important pieces of the Bible. If God can't preserve what we need to know in the Bible to be complete in Him, then the whole of Christianity is a sham and we are of all people most miserable. Either God is all powerful or He is not God at all.
