Romans 2:1-11
Paul's objective shows how all men are condemned.
1. Sinful nature of all men Romans 1
2. Those who are the judgmental moralists who disapprove of the sins of the culture but feel he himself is okay. He is comparing himself to others who are worse than him.
3. Those who agree that man is in trouble but has a religious system in place to deal with that.
We must keep in mind Paul's trajectory. There is none righteous no not one! This is his big point!
How are you going to achieve your own righteousness if there is none good, no not one!
God is holy and demands perfect righteousness. He does not grade on a curve. In the first few chapters Paul is describing justification through the deeds of the law not the Gospel! He brings this up to prove that there is no way to be justified through the law.
V. 6-10 men are judged by their deeds...this is justification by the law....He is describing justification by the law NOT by faith! He is trying to show that this is the justification that most men try to achieve. He is showing the futility of it. He is proving that you can't be justified through works of the law! This most misunderstood by people because they take just a piece here and there and quote it to prove their point and they miss the whole point of what Paul is trying to say!!!
The law is no way to justification, it is the way to condemnation! Justification IS by works and Paul is showing how man's works all fall short. We all need the works of Jesus Christ! Read verses 5-13.
Verses 7, 10 & 13 do not describe justification through faith but rather through the law. This is the bad news! Theses are not the terms of salvation through grace but through the law.
Comparing ourselves to others is not the way to be justified or sanctified! Rom. 3:20-13 Through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
Matt. 19:17-20 The rich young ruler. Jesus told him to keep the commandments but the man said which ones. Jesus repeats them all to him.The young man said he kept them all and wondered what he lacked. Jesus pointed out the impossibility of keeping the law....
The law is unforgiving. v. 6 every man will be accountable for his own deeds.
1. All men are equal. Everyone will stand and give account and it will be according to the law. All will be found guilty. That's why the gospel is good news...we need a Mediator, we need a Savior.
2. All will answer for themselves alone. v. 6 We will be judged for our own deeds and actions. It isn't anyone else's fault for how we are judged. Paul is laying out the sternness of the law.

But none of these things move me, (not knowing what shall befall me v. 23) neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. (Acts 20:24 KJV)
