Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. -Proverbs 27:1
The Lord brought the meaning of this verse home to me again this week. Last week I had posted on my blog an "Update from Me" about how well I had been doing physically. Within a day or two my ankle began to hurt when I walked.
It continued through the weekend, so today I went to the doctor. He was at first puzzled about my ankle since I had not injured it in any way. While I was there I decided to show him a small rash I had on my side. This was the information that clenched it for him.
He said it appears that I have a case of shingles and the virus has attacked my ankle joint. He assured me that if he is right, all of this should be gone within a week or two. I am thankful for that last bit of information.
This bit of wisdom from the Proverbs is timely and true. We never know from one day to the next what will actually happen. Only God knows.
We can make our plans and often God in His mercy allows us to carry our plans through, but we need not boast about what we plan to do because we don't know what the day will bring. So, we must be flexible, able to bend with whatever comes our way if we would please God by not complaining about what He has allowed in His Providence. This is a reminder that I need often as I am prone to complain.
How about you? Are you like me? Quick to complain when your day doesn't turn out as you had planned or expected? Let's remember this advice from Proverbs.
