The floor tile guy came today. Right off the bat we discovered he brought the wrong tile. So he had to run back to the store to get the right stuff which killed at least half an hour.
He discovered that he couldn't lay the new tile over the old existing linoleum because it was too loose. So he spent the better half of the day chiseling the stuff up off the floor. He painted the floor with some sort of stuff to help level it and prepare it for the new tile. It stank a little but nothing like yesterday's stink.
I still have a raw sore throat from yesterday's chemical stink. Tomorrow the tile guy warned me that he is going to be using some sort glue that will not smell very good and if we are allergic or sensitive we best leave the house. So the kids are going to do their on computer subjects first, then we'll pack up the rest of the school books and head to the community college where they can finish up their work. Not sure what we will do about lunch or dinner. I suppose I should take the dog along too. It's so cold out in the car, but maybe if I park in the sun she will stay warm.
We have found some nasty surprises along the way. For example, the carpet hid dry rot by the bath tub and it hit water damage done by the toilet as well. We also found the U-Joint sink trap was rusted through when the guy found dampness under the sink and the pipe caved in when he put his thumb on it. If it were not for the remodel we might have noticed that and had a real problem later. Thankyou, Lord.
It was also discovered that our bathroom fan didn't work because whoever installed it didn't bother to vent it out, so it was completely buried by insulation and couldn't work at all. Oh, the motor ran but it didn't move any air.
Oh the joys of home ownership!
