Marsha's Musings: Dead Men Don't Respond

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

This verse reminds me of another verse.

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to considered ourselves dead to sin...crucified with Christ.  Dead men don't respond.  If our sinful desires are crucified with Christ...reckoned, dead, then we should not respond to the sinful desires that come into our minds.

If we are going to uproot and displace sin in our lives, we must replace it with something else.  We must replace it with the life of Christ.  As we daily read the Bible and spend time in prayer, the Holy Spirit will reproduce the life of Christ in us and sin will be rooted out.

That is not to say we will achieve sinless perfection in this life.  That will never happen because we still have remaining sin in our lives that will poke its ugly up.  But when we do sin, the Holy Spirit will convict us and we will be grieved and hopefully motivated to go to God in repentance.
