Devotional:God Changes Things and Prayer Changes Me.

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

To the uninitiated it seems like a strange statement to say men ought always to pray, and not to faint.  Is prayer that difficult of a thing to do?  Yes!  Remember when Jesus went to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane and he asked his disciples to watch and pray?

Mathew26:40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

They kept falling asleep!  Praying is hard work.  Satan doesn't want us to do it.  So our eyes become heavy.

Another thing that makes prayer difficult is discouragement.  Have you prayed and prayed for something and it seems like God is not answering your prayers?  Then you give up and quit asking.  Sometimes God says, "No".  Sometimes He says, "Maybe." Sometimes He says "Yes" and other times He says, "Wait."  The problem is we don't know what God's answer might be and so we are commanded to keep praying and not grow weary in so doing.  So how do we persevere in prayer?  A prayer journal is one way that will help you do this.  It's not just a laundry list of prayer requests, but rather a book where you actually sit down and write out your prayers to God. It's when you write it out in prayer form that you can look back over it and see where you heart really is.

There is a saying, "Prayer changes things."  That's not completely true.  God changes things and prayer changes me.
