Was reading in Daniel 3-5 this morning. Three times in these passages the phrase is repeated:
“…the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.”
Verse 17 of Chapter 3 really struck me. “…that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.” We cry foul when wicked, evil men get into power in our nation, and while I do believe we as Christians should do what we can to get godly men into leadership, we also need to remember that God is the One who ultimately allows these men to be in leadership. He sets up the basest of men over nations. Why? Sometimes we don’t know why. Sometimes he does it in judgment because the nation as a whole has rejected Him. For whatever reason He sets evil men up as leaders, it should be a wake up call to Christians everywhere to repent and turn from their wicked ways.
