Devotional: The Everlasting Father

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

According to the Eastern custom of calling the possessor of any quality the father of it, the phrase might also be rendered, "the Father of eternity," that is, the Owner of it, the Everlasting; (British Family Bible Commentary)
Micah 5:2 talks about Jesus. " But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." {everlasting: Heb. the days of eternity }

Isaiah 40:28 says, "Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding."

Strong's Concordance says of the word everlasting, "the vanishing point; generally, time out of mind (past or future)" As the everlasting Father or Father of eternity, He was in the past behind us, He is in the present with us and He is in the future before us. This is very comforting. Nothing that happens to us is a surprise to God. He is right there to help us through it.
