We traved from Walla Walla to the Zoo and then up to Vancouver, WA.
We ran into construction before we even got out of Walla Walla. Had to detour. Ended up on the what we thought to be the wrong road but followed it anyway. Found out later it was a good road to be on as it helped us bypass Tric Cities. We really need to buy a map for the car.
We stopped for a potty break and gas somewhere in the Gorge, I don't remember where and then travelled futher up the road to the Cascade Locks in driving rain where we found a covered shelter and made a picnic lunch.
From there we headed to Portland to the Zoo. It rained most of the way but when we got to the zoo the sun was shining. We wore our winter coats and carried umbrellas just to be safe. Didn't need them. Beautiful day at the zoo. I think we saw just about everything there was to see. I bought a mini book for my collection that is made from elephant dung. Lovely. Our quarters is still under construction yet, so we didn't stay. It's the Red Ape housing.
After the zoo we were to meet my nephew David for dinner. We messed up on the directions and ended up a freeway to parts unknown. We had some pretty tense driving time through rush hour traffic with me on the phone getting directions from David who was on Google maps. Thank God for technology like this! We had no idea where we were headed.
We finally made it to a place where we could eat and he met us there half an hour later. While there I brought up Google maps on my computer and wrote out directions to get us out of there and on to our motel in Vancouver.
The funny thing is that when we left the fast food place where we ate in Portland, we drove up the raod a pace and discovered we had made a complete circle from the zoo right back to the exit we took to go to the zoo. Go figure.
We finally made it out of Portland, had quite a time getting to our motel once we found it. We could see it but couldn't find the entrance to it. After about three false tries we hit the right driveway. We tried every entrance around the motel but the last one we found was finally the right one. It wasn't well marked and was more like an alley way than a driveway into a parking lot.
Rick handed me the reciept which I put in my notebook and left in the car. We all loaded our arms up walked into the motel hall and then didn't know which room was our's. I had to go back out to the car, get the notebook so we could find our room.
All the getting lost in Portland and having trouble finding the motel entrance and everything made for some tense times, but we are now here and all is well. It's a nice room with kitchenette. Very roomy.
God has been good and merciful to us in spite of our frustrating times and having our patience tried. We had a great time at the zoo. A fun visit with David and I hope a good night's rest tonight.
Now we have a borrowed computer connection cord so we'll see if I can send this.
