Devotional: The Saviour, Jesus Christ

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

In the last two devotionals we have seen our sin against the back drop of the holiness of God and our desperate need for a Saviour. Now we come to Isaiah 7:14 and see the prophecy concerning that Saviour Who would come. Matthew 1 tells about Him.

Matthew 1:21-23 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
He is called Emmanuel. The name means God with us. Jesus was God manifested in the flesh. He came to reveal God the Father to us.
John 1:14,18 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth...No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
His name is also Jesus. The whole reason Jesus came was to save his people from their sins. Many teach that He came to be an example for us to follow. Others say he was just a good man or a prophet. But the Bible says he came to be a Saviour to save His people from their sins.

We saw why we need a Saviour earlier. Our sin separates us from God because He is holy and we are sinful. We are completely undone before such a holy, awesome God. We can only fall before Him in humility and plead His mercy through Jesus Christ to save us.
