Devotional: Blessed is She that Believed

By Marsha Iddings

And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. Luke 1:45

These words were spoken by Elizabeth to Mary when she come to visit her before their babies were born.

Mary believed what God had told her regarding her child and Elizabeth said she was blessed because she believed what God told her and He would perform what He promised.

As Christians, we also are blessed when we believe what God has promised regarding Jesus Christ. He told Joseph that His name should be called Jesus for He shall save His people from their sins. "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." Matthew 1:21

We are also blessed when we believe the many promises God has given us in His Word. For example, God says He will never leave us or forsake us in Hebrews.

Heb 13:5  Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

What a blessing to know and believe this when the chips are down. He is always there to uphold us in the time of trouble if we will but believe His Word and come to Him.

There are so many promises in God's God's Word that time and space prevents me from listing them all. We just need to search them out and take hold of them and we will be blessed. Now, I must make a disclaimer here. I am not advocating "Name It and Claim It" theology. I am talking about the promises of God that are clearly meant for us and that are designed with our spiritual growth in mind, not our selfish desires for material wealth and health.

Do you believe God will do what He says He will do? Then you are and will be blessed.
