Marsha's Musings: Simple Advice from an 87 year old

At Sunday night fellowship we had a retired missionary from Africa speak to us. I was so inspired by his simplicity and enthusiasm for Christ. One piece of really simple advice he gave was given to him when he was a boy of sixteen years back in 1937. It was this:

Pray each day for God to show you His will for that day and ask Him to help you to be obedient to it.

That's very simple and straightforward, but yet profound. And here's another piece of advice he gave us. He said that many people will pray, "Lord, give me more faith." The Bible says, "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." That is in Romans 10:17. He said if we want our faith to increase, then we have to work at it by getting into the Word of God and digging. He said that every day we should read the Bible until we find something that speaks to us. If you haven't found anything in what you have read, then keep on reading.

He said that if you don't have the Holy Spirit living within you then you are not a Christian. He has talked to many people who say they are Christians and he will ask them, "Do you have the Holy Spirit in your life?" They hem and hah and say, "Well, I'm not sure." He responds with, "Then you don't know Jesus and aren't one of His." Romans 8:9 says, "...Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." And Romans 8:14 says, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." A person who is led by the Spirit of God will know it and they will have the assurance that they belong to God. One who does not have the Spirit of God will not have assurance that they belong to God. Do you have this assurance?
