God also showed me the value of godly friends. During all this, I went out to Starbucks for a green tea latte and visit. I shared with her my frustration with all of this. She suggested we try to put the best construction on all of it. What were my husband's motives when he started doing all this stuff to the computer? He wanted to save money by installing the hard drive with a friend instead of taking it to a computer store. He wanted to improve on the programs that I use and thought I would like them better and they would work better if he upgraded them.
What did I learn about myself in all of this?
- I tend to put the worst construction on situations & people's intentions
- I tend to over-react
- I tend to say too much when I am upset
- I am a great sinner, but I have a great Savior.
What did I learn about how to handle my frustration?
- Take time out when I feel myself starting to get worked up...go for a walk, go to the park, go do housework, pray, pray, pray...just work off the emotion somehow
- Talk it out with a godly friend who won't just encourage your frustration but will guide you into godly responses
- Memorize scripture that addresses your reaction...for example, here are the ones I am working on now:
- Ps 39:1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
- Pr 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
- Ps 4:4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
- Jas 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. 21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
- Ec 5:2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
