Marsha's Musings: Attitude!

I was reading Philippians 2:5-11 in the NIV today. I've read it in the KJV and it says, "Let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus" The NIV renders it, "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus."

I never really paid much attention to that verse but always skipped down to the rest about how Jesus humbled himself even thought He is God and became as a servant, humbled himself and was obedient even unto death.

When I read this in the NIV it just jumped out at me....ATTITUDE! My attitude has been something that I have realized I really need to work on.

Christ made himself nothing, became like a servant, humbled himself and was obedient. His attitude was characterized by humility and obedience.

What does my attitude characterize?
  • when something doesn't go right?
  • when I get blamed for something that's not my fault?
  • when someone does something stupid in traffic?
  • when unexpected expenses arise?
  • when someone does something that irritates me or upsets me?
  • anything else you can think of.....

At those times do I display humility? Am I obedient to Scripture to respond in a God-honoring way?

Wow. As I try to teach my children to have good attitudes I need to take a look at my own...how do I act? Are they following my example? Is it a good example?
