Devotional: Yada, Yada, Yada

Today I am pulling a Pa "B" (my dad).  I am going to " pull one out of the barrel" from way back in 2008.  My week has been a bit hectic and I'm too tired to be able to think straight to write a new devotional.  So I hope you enjoy this blast from the past.  ~ Marsha Iddings

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. (KJV)

Have you ever heard someone say "yada, yada, yada"?  I found an interesting bit of trivia.  When I was studying Psalm 46:10, I discovered that the Hebrew word for "know" in this verse is pronounced "yada".    It means "to know by experience" also, "be sure, of a surety".   God says we are to know for sure by experience that He is God.  It is not just intellectual assent or knowledge.  It's a knowledge that comes from experience that we know for sure He is God and He is God over all, Sovereign over all.

How can we know by experience for sure that He is God?  We must be still.  If we are fretting over the details of life, we can't know by experience that He is God because we are not trusting that He is big enough to take care of us.

So the next time you hear someone say, "Yada, yada, yada", remember what it is you are to "yada"---that He is God!  He is bigger than your problems, so be still and watch Him work.

Dear Father,  You are God, sovereign over the universe.  Help us to be still and really know this by experience. Amen.
