Finalizing the Packing

A few things left in the upstairs hallway that need to be finished up & she has more in her bedroom to pack, but I am not going to take a picture of her room.
Empty boxes waiting to be filled.
Here are some things already packed and few that need to be finished.

Now the the big question is this:  Will it all fit in her Element?  I think packing is like filling your plate at a pot luck.  Your eyes are always bigger than your stomach.  I'm afraid it will be a tight fit and there will be things that will have to stay home.

I'm having my own challenge of packing my things into a tiny little roller bag that I can fit up tight by my feet in the car.  13 days, 8 pairs of socks and undies, two shirts, one pair of jeans, toiletries, planner, iPad mini, keyboard and a book if I can fit it in, plus Sarah's birthday presents....will it all fit?  I'm wearing the second pair of jeans, a shirt, vest and hoodie, plus my jacket and hat.  Laundry will have to be done in North Carolina unless I want to wear dirty stuff the last half of my trip.

Everything is ready for the guys.  The freezer is stocked.  Plenty of instant foods around.  Menu ideas are up on the board along with a list of foods and where to find them.  A daily checklist is also ready for use, so things get done that have to be done while I am gone.

While I have some travel anxiety, I'm trying to reframe this whole trip as a vacation for me.  A time to get away from housework and daily routines and do something different and see something different beside the four walls of the house.  I'm looking forward to some fun times with Sarah as we travel.  Hope we can take a little time along the way to "smell the roses".  Can't do a lot of that though, since time is of the essence and we have to keep an eye on what the weather is doing.

I had a good laugh this morning over Google and their airport diagrams.  The big airports get a complete floor plan with food kiosks, bathrooms, concourses, gates etc all marked.  Then you look at Lewiston's airport.  There is a runway.  That's it.  They don't even show there is a building.  Of course I know there is a building because I've been there.  It's five minutes from home.  But I had to laugh when I went to see Sarah off one time from the Lewiston Airport.  The same person who printed off her ticket, was the same person who checked passenger tickets and he was the same guy who ran out and pushed the stairs up to the airplane and then ran back in to announce to the passengers that they could now board. Then after they were all boarded he pulled the stairs away from the plane.  I don't remember but he might have been the one to haul the luggage out too.  Of course now they have added more impressive TSA measures and a flight or two more, so I'm guessing this guy gets a little help now, but several years ago it was pretty amusing to me.

We are expecting some snow this week end.  I know we will drive through snow getting to Nevada next week.  But I think once we make the Nevada border it shouldn't be too bad unless the weatherman fools us.

Until next time, take care and have a Merry Christmas if I don't get a chance to write again before we leave.
