Marsha's Musings: So What About Christians and Swearing?

3. Meekness will curb the tongue,...Titus 1:13...
...meekness forbids all fury and indecency of language, and every thing that sounds like clamor and evil-speaking...
...Men in a passion are apt to give reviling language, to call names, and those most senseless and ridiculous—to take the blessed name of God in vain, and so profane it. It is a wretched way by which the children of hell vent their passion at their beasts, their servants, any person, or any thing that provokes them, to swear at them...
...for "every idle word that men speak," much more for such wicked words as these, must they give an account at the day of judgment. ~Matthew Henry

So, what about the Christian and swearing?  What about using words that don't take God's name in vein such as crap, dang, damn, sh*t, p*ss, and many others that Christians toss about? I'm as guilty as the next with the first two words.  This has made me think twice about using them and when they slip out I wish I had not said them.😁.  I think all of these fall under the heading of "Idle words".

I hear of Professing Christians justifying the use of the stronger swear words in that list as long as they don't take God's name in vein.  It's okay but you just need to be careful who you do it around.  Is it really okay?  How does that line up with the verse, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”?  Does cursing and swearing glorify God?
1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV
