Marsha's Musings: Ask For Prayer to Stay Faithful Before You Make a Mess of Things (Hebrews 13:18, 19)

Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably. But I especially urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. (Hebrews 13:18, 19 NKJV)

The author of Hebrews is wrapping up his letter.  He requests prayer for himself and his companions, saying that they have a good conscience and desire to live honorably in all things.  He also requests prayer that they may be able to join the believers sooner.

I think it is significant that he asks for prayer because they were confident that they had a good conscience and because they desire to live honorably in all things.  He asks for prayer because he does not want to slip in his Christian living and bring dishonor to God or his fellow-believers.

So many of us wait until we have already made a mess of things and then we cry out for prayer. I would wager a guess that if we were humble enough to ask for prayer in these areas of conscience and honorable living on a regular basis, that we would be less apt to make a mess of things because there would be a sense of accountablility to those we asked to pray for us.
