Marsha's Musings: The State of Many Churches (Hebrews 10:28-31 NKJV)

Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:28-31 NKJV)

Whoa!  There are a lot of people around who have trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace!

There are many churches that trmaple these things underfoot.

Some churches crucifiy Him every week in the mass even though the Bible is clear that Christ's sacrifice was once for all and then He sat down at the right hand of the Father.  They trample the Son of God underfoot when they have priests that are set up to mediate between the people and God. The Bible is clear that Jesus abolished that and that He is the High Priest forever. (Read Hebrews!)

Other churches trample the Son of God underfoot when they elevate a man to the point where what he says is equivalent to God speaking whether or not it is Biblical.  They trample the Son of God underfoot when they elevate another book of "scripture" to be equal or better than the Bible.  They trample the Son of God when they take the sacrement elements that symbolize the blood and body of Christ and change them.  Jesus used wine and unleavened bread.  The church I am thinking of uses water and leavened bread.  This totally strips the Lord's Supper of its meaning.  The color of the wine symbolizes Christ's blood.  How does water do that?  The unleavened bread symbolizes the body of Christ.  The body of Christ is also the church and Christ talked about the church and warned against the leaven (sin) of the Pharisees.  So unleavened bread symbolizes the purity of the body of Christ.  But this particular church seems to celebrate a bloodless sacrifice of their Jesus and a church body full of leaven (sin).

There are also churches today that once were good Bible believing churches that have traded the Biblical Gospel for a social gospel, or a gospel that panders to the felt needs of the people instead of their real need to be right with God.  This is no Gospel at all and they are trampling underfoot the Son of God by going in this direction.

It grieves my heart as I see much of this nonesense going on in churches today.  They do not take seriously, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
