Marsha's Musings: Believing God (Hebrews 11:1-3 NKJV)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. (Hebrews 11:1-3 NKJV)

Blind faith?  Not if you believe God.  Note that I did not say believe in God.  I said believe God.  If we believe what God has said in the Bible, and we know that God cannot lie, then we know our faith is rooted in truth and the promises of God that we hope for are sure.  This why people are willing to die for their faith.  They know that God has promised them a glorious future in heaven with Him and He will make good on His promises.

I happened upon a discussion board on the internet where some supposed scholars, from a well known false religion, were discussing verse 3.  I can understand their take on this verse because I understand what their religion teaches.  Their religion teaches that men can become gods in the afterlife and create and rule their own worlds.  So their take on this verse went like this:

God created the worlds by his faith.  Therefore they would create their own worlds by their faith once they become gods.

This is an example of how people twist the Word of God.  This is saying that by faith we understand that God framed the worlds by His spoken word.  We understand by faith. And how does that faith come about?  By believing God.  Not believing in God, but by believing God.

Do you believe God or do you just believe in God?  There is a vast difference.

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! (James 2:19 NKJV)
